The Oklahoma Infant Alliance works with parents, healthcare professionals and policy makers to create awareness about the unique needs of babies born too soon.  The Oklahoma Institute for Child Advocacy has worked to develop this effort as a statewide initiative and now has turned it over to the new executive director, Bonnie K. Belah, BSW, IMH-E.

The Vision:

To increase awareness and care for babies born during the late preterm period*

The Mission:

To improve the health of late preterm babies*

The Purpose:

To help health care providers and parents understand the unique needs of Late Preterm babies

Who Makes Up OIA:

Alliance members are healthcare providers and parents interested in improving the health and care of Late Preterm babies

Why This Matters:

*Late preterm infants are babies born between 34 and 37 weeks gestation. These babies look like smaller versions of full term babies. For years, late preterm babies were cared for like full term babies. Research now shows that late preterm babies are not the same as full term infants, and that they have a unique set of needs and challenges. These babies born close to term are, in fact, preemies.
